What I have learned so far
by Mary Oliver
Meditation is old and honourable, so why should I not sit, every morning of my life, on the hillside, looking into the shining world? Because, proper- ly attended to, delight, as well as havoc, is sugges- tion. Can one be passionate about the just, the ideal, the sublime, and the holy, and yet commit to no labour in its cause? I don’t think so. All summations have a beginning, all effect has a story, all kindness begins with the sown seed. Thought buds toward radiance. The gospel of Light is the crossroads of — indolence, or action. Be ignited, or be gone.
This much I have learned so far
by David Dayson
Praise the unfolded petal of the tenderest thought; may its bud effloresce. Praise today’s uniqueness: this air, this water, this earth, this sun, followed by the soft embrace of sleep. May wonder permeate the ordinary, and joy arise out of the quotidian, as soon as we accept these are fugitive blessings everyone. Praise friends especially: the give and take of time together, shared pleasure doubles seamlessly; what we give, we shall surely keep. Do not seize the day: pluck the day, like a rose in summer, savour its colour, shape, aroma and know once plucked it will soon be over.
